He thinks he can,
He thinks he can,
He dreams he can,
But he probably can't.

He is supposed to do something.
It's rather important.
He reminds himself.
But he forgets.

These things they add up.
They collect on his head.
This time he really will do it.
But he has so little time.

He begins to get overwhelmed,
He is completely overwhelmed,
So he sets it aside,
But it follows him.

When will I learn,
He asks so frequent,
Ah I did learn,
But he really didn't.

Something biting his heels,
Something bashing his head,
Something more trips his leg,
But he keeps going.

The path is rugged,
Ill-shapen,
Long worn,
But he keeps walking.

Why does he walk,
Why does he struggle,
Why does he care,
There are things expected of him.

He is not weak,
Though he may be weary,

So much too see,
So far ahead,
Though all he can see is himself.

He knows he needs prodding,
Though he ignores it still.

Denying himself what lie on that hill.

He bites his own heel,
He protects his head,
He steps a little higher.

There are things he expects of himself.
